Has this ever been done? Like official represses of Sun 45's. I would love to be able to listen to some of my favorite Sun records on vinyl without having to pay big$$$ on ebay for originals.B)
Hey John, sorry it took me so long to get back to you... been busy...
The first thing that comes to mind is a collection that was put out by a label called "Sundazed" a few years ago. They do vinyl releases of music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. They're really an awesome little label, and they guy that runs it is a very highly regarded mastering engineer so their stuff sounds better then just about anything out there.
This collection is all of Johnny Cash's Sun Singles on High Def. Vinyl. The masters were actually taken from fresh transfers made from Sam's original master tapes. (I know they're good, because I did the transfers myself, I'm actually a recording engineer by trade).
I think there was a re-release of all the Sun 45s, but I'll have to dig out that information for you... I'll ask around.
Below is the album info, taken from

James

To hear Johnny Cash's swaggering Sun Records-era material is to marvel at one of the primal source-streams of what was fast becoming the headwaters of rock 'n' roll. Cash's craggy, lunchbucket vocals on gleaming original versions of songs like "Cry, Cry, Cry," "Get Rhythm," "Big River" and "I Walk the Line," backed by the signature guitar style of Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant's steady bass, are really just the tip of the iceberg corralled on this High-Definition Vinyl double-LP. "Folsom Prison Blues," "Hey Porter" and "So Doggone Lonesome"-and plenty more just as exciting-are rock-solid cornerstones of the Johnny Cash legend, an edifice that will stand as long as the pharaoh's pyramids.
