I have the above listed 45 rpm, the label is not the traditional Sun label with the sunshine background and rooster in the middles, just a plain yellow label with SUN records on it. The song title Baby Lets Play House is below the spindle hole, showing Gunter as the writer, AARON P. as the artist with Scotty & Bill right below AARON'S name, then Memphis Tennessee right below their name. To the left of the spindle hole are the words Excellorec, with BMI right below it, then bleow BMI it says Promotion Copy, rigth below that is 45 T. On the right side of the spindle hole are the words Vocal, then below that is U - 143, then below that is Not for Sale. The other song on the backside is My Baby is Gone. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

WOW Monkeyboy!
Sounds like you got yourself a promotional copy of SUN-217 (a promotional copy was what the Disc Jockeys received to play on the air). Elvis (Aaron) Presley's "Baby Let's Play House" and what should be "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone" on the flip side. Seems strange that it says "My Baby Is Gone" instead... does it say U-142 on that side? Maybe the title got changed before they pressed the 45s for sale. Also that is says AARON P. and not Elvis... The 45 was released April 25, 1955.
Maybe there's some vinyl experts hanging around here that could chime in and fill in the gaps... if not, I'd suggest emailing one of the guys on our "links" page (under Vinyl Appraisal, of course).
How about posting a picture of each side so we can see it?
Awesome!~
James

James,
Thanks for the info, it does have U-142 on the reverse tune. I'm still skeptical about it being an original promo for two reasons: one is the label, of course, the is that the record is in pristine condition, but whoever pressed this record made a pressing error by pressing both sides off center from the spindle hole, making the songs sounding distorted. But, if it is an original, and the misake in pressing occurred, and the label is real, it's worth some money, I'm sure. I'll post pics of both sides shortly so people can see it. Thanks, again,
Moxey

The forum will allow you to upload the pictures here as long as they're not bigger then 550 x 550. I'm sure everyone here would love to see them, so I'll post them if you can't get it working here.
Another good resource for getting information on collector vinyl is www.moneymusic.com - They'd be able to give you more accurate information then we would about values.

Hi what you have is a Boot Leg item, made for the olllectors market, and has NO ties to the sun label. There only 5 SUN singles total 10 songs listed on the SUN label 209 210 215 217 223. The first for have 3 push marks on the label that form a perfect triangle, # 223 does not. in some cases the company stamped in red INK SAMPLE on what was the DJ Copy. Sam isssued NO Extended Play or LP by Elvis Presley. Currently out there is some who has bootlegged MY happiness and given it # 252, and last week some dope paid over 1000.00 US thbinking he was getting the real thing. If you want the whole Poop on Elvis trip to sun get a copy of a book called PRESLEYANA give full description of his 5 singles.

To James and all other NEW Bees....
how can you possibly think that this Baby lets play house is the real thing? I suggest that you start doing some reading about the company and what Sam did. this record is an out and out fake, it came with various colored labels Yellow, black white, My babys gone on 1 side, and on 2 sides. this song came out in the mid 70's when Charley records went through some of Sams old tapes my babys gone has about 7 different versions as released on RCA in 1985 or there abouts also alternate Blue Moon of Kentucky and alternate and breakdown of I dont care if the sun dont shine. all left over stuff and released on an album called Good Rockin tonight (boot leg) in the mid 80's flip side un released (at the time) Jerry Lee and same in a religious discussion and alternate Great Balls of fire amont other things. So dont get your hopes UP what you have is on a scale of 1 to 10 about 1 contact me at my e-mail. I was recently at 706 Union. and other that a rehersed speech by the tour guide, he actually new nothing.

*sigh*...
It's partially my fault for not updating this thread... The 45 in question is indeed a bootleg (one of many different variations that were made). The original poster had hoped that he had stumbled onto a promo Sun 45 and was (of course) not assuming that it was the actual production pressing. One look at the photo and it was plain to see that it wasn't even close to any design that Sam used.
Chelsea, I'm sorry you didn't have the best tour guide when you were in Memphis, but the "Sun Studio" isn't run by the Sun Record Company, and we have nothing to do with their tour guides or rehearsed speeches.
As for your suggestion to "start doing some reading about the company and what Sam did",... This statement was quite unwarranted given the above posts, especially if it's directed at me. Every release that comes from this company literally comes off of my tape machine. My studio here at Sun Records (Nashville, remember) has ALL of Sam's original tapes in it, and I've personally transferred (and recently re-mastered) the majority of them for future releases.
This forum is supposed to be a communication tool so that people can share their experiences, not chastise people who don't have the same level of experience. In the future, please try to keep the tone civil.
Thanks,
James
