Today marked the 12th anniversary of Sam Phillips passing. To celebrate his life, the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville will have an exhibit showcasing the genius of Sam, which opens August 28th. Peter Guralnick, the music biographer and author of Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock n’ Roll, has released the cover of his book, due out in November. Last month was big for the Killer. On September 23, he released his first studio album on his new label, Vanguard Records. The album is filled with a variety of recordings, both original and covers, from various catalogs including Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd and even Johnny Cash.
Cash’s first LP released on the Sun label is now available in the vinyl format. Originally released in 1957, With His Hot & Blue Guitar is Johnny Cash’s first full-length album released. It features hits like “I Walk The Line” and “Folsom City Blues,” and is pressed on high quality black vinyl.
This past Saturday marked a huge anniversary in the history of rock music. The same day 60 years ago was the day Elvis Presley recorded his first hit, “That’s All Right,” at Sun Studio. Many music historians attribute this as the birth of Rock & Roll. It is undeniable that this recording started a whirlwind in the music and entertainment community, as Elvis’ own version of Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s blues song tore up the charts and found its way into the ears of millions.
