Sun Records – 60th Anniversary

60th

Curb Records is releasing a compilation of Sun Records artists in celebration of the 60th Anniversary. It’s hard to believe 60 years ago Sam Phillips started this independent label & recording studio that blossomed into the collection of iconic artists in which it is today.

The 2-CD compilation will hit shelves on April 17th and contains 60 tracks from iconic artists. Of the 60 songs, most notable are two Elvis Presley tracks cut before his signing at Sun Records, as well as three Sun tracks; “BB’s Blues” by BB King, produced by Sam Phillips for the RPM Label; and what many consider the first Rock & Roll recording “Rocket 88″ by Jackie Brenston, also produced by Sam Phillips for Chess Records. Other Sun artists featured in the compilation include Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, The Prisonaires, and of course Johnny Cash.
